I have a degree (B.Sc) in building surveying obtained from South Bank Polytechnic in London, passed with distinction.

In 1992, I was elected a Professional Associate (MRICS) of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and have practiced as a Chartered Building Surveyor ever since.

As an RICS member, I am bound by the Institutions' published Rules of Conduct, which regulate areas such as integrity, competence, lifelong learning, solvency, complaints handling, client's money, indemnity insurance and advertising.

In 1995, I was elected a member of the Association of Planning Supervisors (APS), and after revisions brought in by the CDM Regulations 2007, successfully transferred in 2008 to the re-titled Association for Project Safety (APS) as a Registered Member (RMaPS).
